About JoseDog

JoseDog is a free web application designed to help you learn and master sequences in the game of Go (also known as Baduk or Weiqi).

๐ŸŽฏ What is a joseki?

A joseki is a sequence of moves considered optimal for both players, usually played in a corner of the goban. These sequences have been studied and perfected over centuries by Go masters.

  • Establish a solid position in the corners
  • Understand fair exchanges
  • Save time in games by knowing standard responses
  • Develop strategic intuition

๐ŸŒ Where do the sequences come from?

The sequences in JoseDog come from OGS's Joseki tool (Online Go Server), a community-maintained reference curated by players worldwide. The collection covers 1062 sequences ranging from basic openings to advanced pincers.

Move-by-move comments are inspired by Josekipedia and also contributed by the community.

๐Ÿ“– How to use JoseDog?

Several modes are available to help you progress:

  • Study โ€” Browse each sequence and replay the sequence move by move.
  • Quiz โ€” Classic quiz, at your own pace
  • Chrono โ€” Race against the clock: complete as many sequences as possible within a time limit (2, 5, or 10 min).
  • Survival โ€” No safety net: limited lives, go as far as you can without making mistakes.
  • Recognition โ€” Memorize the final position then reproduce the sequence from memory. A visual memorization exercise.
  • Spaced repetition โ€” Sequences mastered in the Quiz are automatically scheduled for reviews at increasing intervals (1d, 3d, 1 week, 1 monthโ€ฆ) to lock them into long-term memory.
  • Battle Quiz โ€” Challenge your friends in real-time! Create a room or join a game with up to 4 players.
๐Ÿ’ก Tip : Start by studying a few sequences, then launch a Quiz to master them. Come back every day to the Review page and complete at least 6 reviews to keep your streak.
